BEETHOVEN’S THINKING

Beethoven’s String Quartet in A minor

is a long conversation I listened to last night.

There are heavy sighs and murmurous noddings,

occasional rising intensities, a jerky passage develops, but then, in the end,

you realise that time has slowed down

and that it was Beethoven’s thinking

you had heard and you breathe,

Amen to it all.
